About Us

Every one of our small-batch soap bars are handmade in the UK using the traditional cold process method. As a result, each bar - much like our clientele - is quite unique. We believe this is the best way to be and we hope you will agree. We couldn't be prouder of our soap and hope you will love using it as much as we do!

GOAT Soapworks began in 2016 with one goal; to create the best possible bar of soap for anyone who chooses to use our products. We aim to bring together the finest ingredients to produce a bar which is tough on dirt, dryness, blemishes and cracking but which nourishes, softens and cares for your skin. It was one of our founding principles that no palm oil, parabens, SLS or any other unpleasant, unsustainable elements were to be used in the making of our soap. The idea was simply to produce a superior quality soap bar and this remains our focus today.

Why Goat's Milk ?

Most people will know, either personally or through friends and family members, of the distress brought on by dry, itchy, cracked or blemished skin. It can cause discomfort, worry, self-consciousness and even pain – sometimes to the point of interfering with daily activities. This is particularly true for those who suffer from eczema and / or who spend time working outside.

With first hand experience of the challenges faced by skin under tough conditions, but also with a young family and a need to provide gentle cleaning for the softest of skin, when we took on a herd of milking goats in 2016 we decided to use the milk to make a high quality soap bar which could meet our own requirements and also address the issues highlighted above. Not only this, we wanted a product which looked good, smelt nice and offered people something a bit different and, importantly, better than what was currently available.

Ethos

In a world which is increasingly full of artificial ingredients, throw-away consumer products and things which shamelessly masquerade as something else, we want to be as true to our principles as possible. We therefore avoid palm oil (a major contributor to global deforestation and habitat loss) all together, even the oil alleged to be sustainable as the argument for sustainable palm oil, we believe, remains unconvincing.

We also made a choice only to make bar soap. Soap bars have been in use since around 2,800 BCE but today around 70% of all soap sales are liquid soap. Unfortunately the sale of liquid soap often requires the use of materials we'd rather avoid, such as the plastic packaging used to contain it. Glass provides an alternative but also increases prices and still creates waste. We prefer to keep our costs in our products and not in the packaging.

They say you should start as you mean to go on so...

Right from the beginning, we only wanted to offer the best. With this in mind, we first created our own recipe; a recipe which was meticulously researched and trialled over a period of nearly two years before being fully tested and professionally signed off in accordance with all applicable standards and regulations. It is absolutely true to say that we wanted something we could be proud to use and proud to offer to others; something which we could say, with hands on hearts, was born not out of a wish to profiteer but a desire to create a carefully thought out unique product, crafted to help those who use it. With our handmade soap bars we truly believe we have achieved that goal.

In truth...

...we just like a good, solid bar of soap, particularly when it smells so good! We also like simple, cost effective packaging and our customers seem to agree.
